Guimaraes puts Arsenal's title defence back on track; United held

Oct 11, 2026

London[UK], October 11: Arsenal struck twice in eight second-half minutes to secure a comeback 2-1 win against Leeds at the Emirates Stadium and move level on points with Manchester City at the Premier League summit.
After a thumping 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break, Mikel Arteta's side were staring at a second shock loss in as many matches after James Justin fired the visitors ahead with 55 minutes gone.
However, Riccardo Calafiori drew the champions level when he converted Ben White's header from close range in the 62nd minute, before substitute Bruno Guimaraes struck the decisive blow just six minutes after he came off the bench.
Arteta said of Guimaraes: "This is the level for Arsenal, every week, every game, every minute, every action that you have to be at. Against Brighton he wasn't at that level, and today he was much better, and he can still be much better, and that's what we have to demand."
Arsenal were below their best against a well-drilled Leeds side, who, prior to the contest, were unbeaten in the league.
Manchester City, contesting their first match since the club were found guilty of an avalanche of financial breaches, at Liverpool on Sunday.
Dominic Solanke capitalized on weak Manchester United defending as winless Tottenham recovered from Rodrigo Bentancur's dismissal to snatch a late 1-1 draw as boos filled Old Trafford once again.
Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi led the bookmakers' sack race odds heading into the weekend, with the Red Devils' five-point return from five games now their joint worst start to a Premier League campaign.
Spurs' record was even worse having failed to win a match, and Bryan Mbeumo looked set to punish their latest wasteful display when turning to expertly fire home in the second half.
Bentancur's sending-off for headbutting Luke Shaw increased the incline on Spurs' uphill battle, but United failed to beat 10 men like against Manchester City in their last Premier League outing on home soil.
Sandro Tonali was allowed to send over a stoppage-time cross which Solanke glanced home following some woeful defending by Lisandro Martinez, who scored a calamitous own goal against Fulham last time out.
Jordan Henderson was the unlikely hero as Chelsea's entertainers blew Bournemouth away in a comprehensive and chaotic 5-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
Former Liverpool captain Henderson, 36, scored two and set up one for Morgan Rogers while Joao Pedro also hit the net twice for the rampant Blues.
Ipswich produced a dramatic turnaround to beat Fulham 2-1 after late goals by Abdoul Ouattara and Dara O'Shea extended Alvaro Arbeloa's winless start to six Premier League matches.
Maxim De Cuyper and Jaouen Hadjam were both on the scoresheet as 10-man Brighton clinched a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Kristoffer Ajer's second-half equalizer ensured Brentford continued their unbeaten start to the PL season in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Aston Villa.
