Geneva, Switzerland/PoJK, 27 June 2026 - The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) staged a protest at the Broken Chair monument outside the United Nations during the 62nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, drawing attention to human rights violations in Pakistan-occupiedJammu and Kashmir. Protesters raised slogans against the Pakistan Army and security forces, accusing them of using excessive force against civilians and suppressing peaceful dissent. They referred to the June 7 firing on demonstrators in Rawalakot, in which several people were killed and many others sustained serious injuries. According to the organisers, protests against the June 7 incident have continued across Rawalakot and other parts of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with demonstrators demanding accountability and justice. Addressing the gathering, UKPNP leaders urged the United Nations and the international community to take notice of the human rights situation in the region. They called for an independent international investigation into the alleged use of force against protesters and appealed for global intervention to ensure justice and protect the fundamental rights of the people of PoJK. The demonstration formed part of the party’s broader campaign to internationalise concerns over the human rights situation in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir during the ongoing session of the UN Human Rights Council.
