South Korea searches former President Yoon Suk Yeol's home

May 01, 2025

Seoul [South Korea], May 1: South Korean prosecutors on Monday searched the home of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, to investigate suspicions about Yoon's family's relationship with a magician, Yonhap reported.
Accordingly, the South Seoul District Prosecutor's Office dispatched prosecutors and investigators to Yoon's residence in the south of Seoul. The prosecution is investigating the suspicion that a high-ranking figure of the Unification Church of Korea transferred a diamond necklace and branded handbag to a priest named Jeon Seong-bae, so that Jeon could pass it on to Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon, after Yoon was elected president of South Korea in 2022.
Investigators are gathering evidence to verify the transfer of branded items, and whether Ms. Kim received them. Jeon said he lost the gifts and never gave them to Kim. However, the prosecution obtained a message from a church member asking Jeon to return the necklace. Previously, in December 2024, South Korean authorities also searched the residence of shaman Jeon Seong-bae. Jeon was later arrested and his two phones were also confiscated as evidence.
South Korean media have repeatedly mentioned Mr. Yoon as a politician with spiritual beliefs and often goes to see shamans. Last year, Kim Keon-hee was questioned over corruption allegations after she was caught receiving branded handbags.
