Washington [US], March 29: Former US Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton joined hands to campaign for President Joe Biden, while Donald Trump's campaign admitted that it could not raise as much money as his election opponent.
Reuters reported on March 29 that US President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama hosted a fundraiser with former President Bill Clinton, helping to raise more than 25 million USD for Mr. Biden's re-election campaign .
President Biden and former President Obama traveled on Air Force One to New York City (New York state, USA) on the afternoon of March 28 (local time). Former President Clinton will attend the discussion here in front of thousands of people.
The event at Radio City Theater also included performances by stars Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele. Some high-paying attendees will have their photo taken with three Democratic presidents and former presidents, taken by famous photographer Annie Leibovitz.
The show of support from Mr. Biden's predecessors is intended to demonstrate party unity and the project's fundraising strength.
"Former President Obama and former President Clinton strongly support President Biden's leadership and his agenda. We understand the importance of the three of them standing together," according to the spokesperson White House Karine Jean-Pierre.
According to a Democrat, tickets for the event that is expected to bring resonance to Mr. Biden's re-election efforts cost between $250-500,000. The campaign said it has raised more than $25 million, with more than 5,000 people expected to attend. The event will not be televised, but the campaign plans to post clips on social media.
Small donors paid $25 to participate in a private online event with Mr. Biden and his two Democratic predecessors.
Former President Donald Trump, the leading Republican candidate for the presidential election in November, is also in New York.
An advisor to Mr. Trump's campaign said that this campaign will not be able to raise as much money as Mr. Biden's side in this race: "We will never be able to mobilize like Mr. Biden."
This consultant blamed the disparity in fundraising on "billionaires" who support the Democratic Party. Another adviser said that Mr. Trump's campaign "is fueled by hundreds of thousands of ordinary people contributing across the country, and I'd rather that because it's vote by vote."
When asked, spokesman Ammar Moussa for Mr. Biden's campaign said that "Trump's campaign is short of cash."
Data from the OpenSecrets organization (USA) shows that large contributions account for about 55% of the $128.7 million that Mr. Biden's election campaign committee has raised so far. For Mr. Trump, large contributions accounted for 64% of the $96.1 million his campaign committee raised.
