Former Italian intelligence officer accused of spying for Russia

Rome [Italy], July 8: A former employee of the Italian intelligence service was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of spying for Russia, according to public prosecutors. The 59-year-old man is accused of selling information to a Russian agent who is employed as a diplomat in Italy, the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office announced. Investigators released several videos showing meetings between the two men.
The suspect is a former non-commissioned officer in the Carabinieri police force.
In addition to espionage, the prosecutor's office has charged him with accessing computer systems without authorization. According to the charges, the former intelligence officer obtained classified information from six different sources, including four active-duty military personnel.
These men are also under investigation.
